OVERVIEW:
This report presents the disease incidence and prevalence and surgical procedure volumes for selected cardiovascular/peripheral vascular disorders and interventional procedures in Spain; incidence and prevalence figures are compared with those of the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands), the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden), and the European Union (EU) countries of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (U.K.). Among the disorders covered by this report are angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, hypertension, and myocardial infarction. Among the covered surgical procedures are coronary artery bypass graft surgery, cardiac resynchronization therapy, congenital heart defect repair, femoropopliteal bypass and stenting, pacemaker/implantable cardioverter defibrillator and ventricular-assist device implantation, percutaneous coronary intervention, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, peripheral atherectomy, and thrombectomy/thrombolysis.

Procedure volumes forecasts are for the years 2010-2016, with aggregate figures for the EU countries of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. as well as for Spain alone. Disease incidence and prevalence figures are for the year 2010.

In addition to proprietary data utilized from Medtech Insight's internal resources, many agencies and organizations have provided information including the European Heart Network; European Society of Hypertension; Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality (Ministerio de Sanidad, Politica Social e Igualdad); Spanish Society of Cardiology (Sociedad Espanola de Cardiologia); and the World Health Organization, among others.
